Well, the first page of a Google search mostly shows it referring to technical things like engines and video playback, although I can’t say I’ve ever heard anyone use it in speech.

I’m always kind of surprised when someone favorites this at DA, to be honest.  Although by DA standards, 10 faves is infinitestimal, it’s a lot for me.  I doodled it seven years ago in a blank book with cheap gel pens from the 99¢ store, while sitting in the front yard watching the fry chase the cats around and “stupid, stupid pretty hair” was still floating around in my head.

Cripes, that fic is going on 10 years old!  It doesn’t seem like that long ago I read it. <:(

I’m not a sucker for love stories.

When I say I ship something, I don’t care about the happily ever after. I don’t care about romantic comedies or princess movies with a seamless love arc and a fairytale ending. That isn’t what I’m in it for.

I’m not a sucker for love stories. I’m a sucker for character stories.

I want to read a story in which the characters don’t fit perfectly. Where they complement each other when they’re happy but tear themselves apart in desperate situations. Where their relationship is healthy but not always, equal but not always, happy but not always.

I want to see characters suffer because that’s how I know they’re real.

I don’t ship to be happy. I ship to feel real. I ship because I love relationship dynamics, not relationships themselves. That’s why I don’t just have otps. I have brotps and dream teams and favorite family dynamics and favorite characters alone.

I ship because I like to see how a given character will respond to another given character in any given situation. I like to see how they mesh together, how their personalities match and mismatch, how they push and pull at each other and then come together or fall apart.

I don’t ship for the what of the situation. I ship for the how and the why. Don’t give me characters waywardly thrown together for the perfect puzzle-piece ending. Give me the two people who would seemingly never fit. Make it work. I don’t want fireworks or fairytales. I want realism. Passion and lack thereof. Heat and coldness and love and hate.

Don’t give me love. Give me character. Don’t just tell me. Convince me.

Hmmm. Maybe this is why I’ve never been all that interested in conventional romances, but I do really like fanfiction. I’d always thought it was because it was just the “what if” that never got explored in canon, the escapism, but this is a large part of it too.

But yeah, convince me.  I’m open to just about any ship you care for, as long as you give me a reason.

It feels so obvious. It’s not in the wrinkles of his clothes or the colour of his teeth or even hiding in his nail beds, but it might as well be. Sherlock never thought he would be so hideously obvious in his life, thought he’d learned how to cover his tracks when he learned how to trace them and shut down his weaknesses when he deemed them illogical. But not anymore. He has veins and arteries staining his cuffs. John understands emotions. Perhaps he can see it even more clearly. It would make sense.

He can’t, of course. And trying to tell him would be like turning the sea backwards. Sherlock’s thankful for that, at least. Small miracles.

I haven’t read any SessKag for a long time. When I was reading Tales from the House of the Moon, at a certain part of it I was listening to a webcast of the Coachella Festival, waiting for Crowded House to play.  An Irish artist I wasn’t familiar with, Damien Rice, preceded them and began performing The Blower’s Daughter.  

I’d just reached the part  where Kagome has completed her training, and she and Sesshomaru share a final night’s companionship at their campfire before she goes off to fight a false priestess the next morning, knowing she’s probably going to die.  Sesshomaru watches her go then, telling himself he’s not going to interfere. 

Put some cello in and you just kill me.  I can’t hear this song without thinking of that scene.

Just forget the last line, though.
